Every Anzac Day and Remembrance Day, Yetman Public School becomes place for the community to gather to show their respect and pay tribute to our servicemen and women.
The school’s memorial will receive an upgrade thanks to a grant from the State Government’s Anzac Community Grants Program.
Red poppy sculptures will feature at the base of the flagpole located at the front of the school’s main building and they are hoping to add bench seats for students, staff and community members who attend the annual services.
Member for Northern Tablelands Brendan Moylan visited the school to chat with students and staff about the newly-funded Anzac Memorial.
“It is important war memorials in our communities are maintained, enhanced, and upgraded so communities can continue to gather and reflect on those who made sacrifices in defending Australia throughout our history,” he said.
“Yetman is a small town of around 200 people and the school is a central place for the community.
“The community gathers at the school on Anzac Day and and Remembrance Day to show their respect and pay tribute to our servicemen and women.
“The funding will ensure that tradition at Yetman Public School will continue into the future.”
The Anzac Community Grants Program is one of two grant programs offered by Veterans Affairs, the other being the Community War Memorials Fund.
Grant applications for the Community War Memorials Fund will open on 22 April and close on 25 May.
The Anzac Community Grants Program will open in September.
